|If they are small flying gnats and they seem to come from some of your plants, then they may be fungus gnats. These gnats are usually introduced with contaminated soil added during repotting. The adult gnats live only for about a week. However, the gnat larvae live in the soil and feed on damp soil and decaying roots and will emerge to replace the dying adults.
Scrape off any loose soil you may have added to the surface of the original rootball if you repotted. Then, allow the soil to dry as deep into the pot as possible (almost to the wilt point) before adding a small quantity of water. The goal is to deprive the larvae of the damp soil they need in the upper layer of the soil.
