OK, totally not orchids, but I need some help from the east coast. Lynda and I are going to DC in May. I was there once some 30 years ago for training with the GPO. Lynda has never been. Sooooo, we will be doing the tourist thing. Question is a hotel. Near to the tourist sites. Any suggestions?

Check airbnb.com and use the zip code for Georgetown to start. It's one of my favorite cities to visit , great transportation, free museums and wonderful cafes and bistros. Are you going for business as well?

Thanx.
I take it Georgetown is near all the sightseeing stuff?
This trip is strictly pleasure. Lynda has always talked about going there.
On my Orlando trip, it is all business. I have some prelim agendas, but things seem to be changing all the time. Still hoping to block some time to get some orchiding in

Crystal City is near to the National Airport and the Metro which makes it convent to everything.

Georgetown is the college area....a very short distance to the downtown area. I took a quick look at airbnb just typing in Washington DC and there's TONS of great looking places right in town. If you haven't used airbnb you can use a filter to only show you places in a specific neighborhood...entire homes or apartments, ( so you don't have to share with roommates etc.) there's a good system of reviews from past guests and the cost is almost always significantly cheaper than hotels . I've used them all over the world and there's something really nice about being part of a neighborhood , even for a few days. You'll have a wonderful time and that's a great time of the year to visit.

I would strongly consider a hotel that the metro runs into, or very very very close by. That way you can get everywhere you need to, and want to. I just love it there myself.

Worry about being close to a metro stop. It is very nice and will take you to all the sightseeing thingies. Georgetown is a good place to stay with lots of hotels, restaurants and nightlife. Have fun.

The Willard is a classic and right by all the Smithsonians. The Hay Adams is another famous old one. These I would suspect are pretty pricey but an experience in themselves. My son recently stayed at the Renaissance Downtown and a few months earlier at the Westin City Center. He said both were very nice and convenient to the Mall.

The Metro is easy to navigate so anywhere you stay will be convenient. Alexandria is another charming area and the tourist attractions are easily reached, it is only about 15 minutes from downtown by Metro. The hotels there are far less expensive.

Thanx all. Checking everything out. This is the first time in a long, long time that Lynda and I are getting away together, just us two. And no business included
