I took this photo in January at Zion. I asked the ranger what it was and she thought it might be rabbit brush, but wasn't sure. I am not familiar with this plant, so hard for me to figure out. It was situated near the river with lots of others, so some sort of riparian plant I'm guessing. Shrub, looks to be at the tail end of going to seed, starting to green up a bit on the stems. On further research, correct botanical name might be Ericamerea nauseosus, which is also listed as rabbitbrush (one word, apparently, not two).

Hi Deb,

I'm not sure what you have there but its not Rabbitbrush. Rabbitbrush grows in the driest part of the desert and has grey stems and leaves. The seedpods are much more dense also. I can go take a photo for you in a few days. It snowed 18 inches last night and even if I could get out the door, I don't think I could find a Rabbitbrush under the snow. Smiling

Thanks Daisy. Hopefully someone will recognize it. I like to take random photos of plants while traveling, then try to puzzle out what they are.
