Not sure if it's better to ask here or post as a suggestion in the Site Talk forum, but I was wondering if there are any content guidelines for database submissions posted anywhere--something akin to a Wikipedia manual of style. I haven't found any easy links for this either in the About section, Help section, or as a sticky in the Site Talk forum. I realize that in certain content submission areas, it gives tips. For example when submitting a photo it mentions: "Photos submitted here must be of a certain quality to be approved. Specifically: The main subject must be in focus, and the image must have the right exposure (not too dark or light.) Additionally, while not a disqualifying problem: please do try to limit photos that include hands, fingers, feet and other non-plant items. Finally, only post photos that are your own work, or those for which you have the license/permission from the image owner." However, even that could be better if there were minimum suggested requirements for resolution, aspect ratio, file size, etc. Another I learned from asking about scientific plant names to which zuzu replied that catalogueoflife.org was a preferred guideline for vetting scientific names. I think listing these little tidbits of information can greatly help newcomers like myself be able to contribute meaningful content. In general, I believe there should be a central location that codifies all the preferences and guidelines for submissions. If there already is and I've missed it, sorry and please direct me accordingly :) |
Hello, GoCart. You might find these threads helpful: The thread "Common errors in data proposals" in Plant Database forum The thread "Common errors in new plant proposals" in Plant Database forum |

As always, thank you very much, zuzu. My suggestion still stand that should be stickied though. It's good info! Make it so that it pops up in front of new members faces! ![]() EDIT: Never mind, I finally made it through the rest of the thread explaining the rationale for not adding elsewhere. I suppose I'm in the minority for trying to seek out guidelines before "diving in." |
