A friend and I are coeditors of our local rock garden society newsletter, The Alpine Line. We are working on a humorous article called Murphy's Laws for Gardeners. Here are a couple we have come up with
1. Deer will eat only the most expensive plants and leave the weeds.
2. When sowing seeds, plants that are like weeds will germinate like hair on the back of a dog while the seed of the most desirable will sulk, produce only a few seedlings or not germinate at all.
e. A gardener will tend to loose his favorite tool!
4.The most desirable plants will be the first to succomb to drought, summer humidity mugs, early frosts and other weather abnormalities

Anyone have other suggestions

It will always rain right after you have watered thoroughly.

There will be a severe spring freeze right after you set out your tomatoes.

How about a Peter Principal corollary: The gardener will expand his garden to the level of his inability to maintain it.

I can't think of any. But, in item e. change loose to lose. It will make a lot more sense that way. Smiling

Any plant diseases that show up will be the type that your favorites are vulnerable to.

That prized, exorbitantly expensive plant you imported will turn out to be a NOID after you tend it patiently for three years to bloom

Inevitably, a less desirable plant will out-compete and consume your precious baby --fill in the blank--
(probably because)
You will never learn not to try and squeeze in just one more precious baby --fill in the blank--

Gardeners with lots of sun always fall in love with shade plants.

Gardeners with lots of shade want to grow plants that need more sun.
I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

The plants you most want are always 1 cold tolerant zone higher than your zone.
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.
