I have many seedlings popping up from winter sowing in milk jugs and noticed plant reports on this on the home page. Also, do you get acorns for making a report?

Hi! I love winter sowing! It's so exciting to see stuff popping up.

To make a report, make sure the plant is in your list. Go to your list and click on the plant you wish to report on. Just click on Add an event or
File a plant performance report and go from there.

To answer your second question, it does not appear that one gets an acorn for a plant report. I don't use that particular feature so can't confirm, but if you click on the 'Acorn' button in the blue section at the bottom of the screen, it explains how to earn acorns. You can also get them from other folks 'gifting' them to you, usually for a well written response, plant comment, or exceptional photo. Or just out of the goodness of their heart.

@Samlav,
If you take photos of your plants especially when they are newly emerged showing the cotyledons and first true leaves, you may earn some acorns when you submit those images to the NGA database. Thumbs up

Thank You! @Bonehead @greene , I forgot about the section where it explains how to get acorns D'Oh! . Although I have earned acorns before for things I've done, I am still not experienced on this website. There is so much to learn, see, and do here that sometimes I get overwhelmed and distracted , in a good way, though. nodding I have not been a member for a full year yet, if that makes my forgetfulness any better. Sad I am at a point in my life where I feel that I am an old dog trying to learn new tricks. It's nice to know there are some patient masters around. Smiling
Oh yes, now would be an excellent time to snap photos of the cotyledons and first true leaves! Thumbs up I am so excited about all the germination after the long waiting over the winter. I never tried winter sowing before and I am astonished with the results! Hurray!

I have never understood the purpose of earning acorns. Is it just a special compliment from the giver. Or are they like Bitcoins with some intrinsic value?!

They are like bitcoins, you can use them to buy tickets in the raffles or to buy micro badges.

Thanks, Anne. Is it possible for me to give some of my acorns to others who want them?

Yes, it will ask you how many you wish to give to any particular member. You can also click on the bottom of a post to give acorns for something you might have found quite useful. I don't really care about the nuts myself, I have enough badges and I don't participate in the raffles. So I generally give them out for nice photos or banners, and to new members now and again, particularly those in my region.

Another nice way to give away acorns is to donate them to the raffles - often folks who have an excess will either add an acorn prize to the raffle itself, or create a thread giving away nuts in whatever fashion they like.

Thanks for coming on to answer my question @WillC. I learned a lot about acorns and how to make a plant report. I enjoy trying for a prize at the monthly raffles in the summer. That would be a good place for them unless you would like to try to win a plant, seeds or equipment in the raffle yourself. Smiling
