Recently saw a post on the Souther Peony blog with pics of new growth and foliage, thought it'd be fun to share that same thing here this spring. I know several of you already have significant growth, I've already seen pics with some really impressive foliage, will you share them again here? And as the plant progresses we can copy the earlier pics into new entries so we can see the progression. Make sure you share the variety if know or specify NOID, please, that way anyone looking for pretty foliage as well as gorgeous flowers can see the total package! And later in the year we can do another with fall colors....

Not much to share at the moment but I am so happy to see Lois's Choice as having such beautiful foliage. I added it last fall so I will hope to catch its beautiful foliage soon.

Glad you like it, Karen. I hope those little buds make it through the freezes. I don't believe she bloomed at all in 2017.

Keep warm up there!

I just received Kamanishiki. It is about 18" tall with two or three very sturdy wooden branches. The bottom however is just a solid round core with barely a few cut off roots. About the size of a juice glass. I have planted it in a pot and set it in the garage (greenhouse) which runs about 55F on the floor, next to the rolling racks with the top two shelves lit up for seeds. Is this normal condition for a tree peony? The vendor is very reputable. White Flower Farm

Could it just be new tree peony roots with the nurse root removed? If so at least you don't have the threat of herbaceous suckers....I've never purchased anything from White Flower Farm so can't say I'd thats normal.

I really like Greenland foliage! Love the deep shade of green and purple tints. It will be awhile before I see any foliage from herbaceous peonies. We still have pretty cold temps for the next 2 weeks.

I must have sent a large piece of Early Scout. Do not be concerned if it does not bloom well the first year. With that many stems, it should really put on a show next year.

Jerry, it really looks wonderful! I am so pleased with the foliage, and there are tiny little buds in there.
It will be so exciting if I get blooms this year!!
Hurray!

Thanks Liz and Anya!

The blooms on GS are pink, so it's interesting that the foliage is so red. I tend to see the reddish stems on my peonies with red blooms.

LG, thanks for pointing out the darker stems on Wladislawa, I didn't notice them. It's a nice contrast to the green leaves.
