I would like to buy about 12 square feet of the heavy duty black polypropylene ground cover that nurseries and greenhouses use (not the same thing as regular landscape fabric).

I asked a landscaping company, two local nurseries, and some random person at Lowe's, but nobody sells it in small quantities. I just don't need a giant roll.

Does anybody know where I can buy a small quantity? Even if I could get 20-30 square feet that would be better than hundreds...

If you can't find someone who sells small rolls, as you are only talking about 12 sq. feet, ( 2' x 6', 3' x 4') you could tape green/black garbage bags together, OR, you could go to your local building supply company, and check out in the yard, for sub-grade, odd, non-matching fiberglass roofing shingles, same as on your house. They measure about 4' x 14". I can buy them here for .50 cents each. Nothing in your lifetime will grow up through those! I stand corrected, they only come with a 25-year warranty. LOL. You can then cover them with crusher dust, bark mulch, pea gravel, crushed rock, whatever. Note: Do not buy the shingles with the "tabs", as the weeds will grow up through the tab slits. Cheers!

I was going to mention black plastic trash bags too, Cut them down the sides and you won't need many. But another option is just buying a dark tarp
