While pulling Bedstraw out of my backyard today I ran across this weed. Not sure what it is but I'm sure it's a weed, that's all I have in my yard Rolling on the floor laughing

Bird seed. That was my first thought. Millet or Sorgham.

Could be Lin, I'm going to see if I can get a better photo with my tablet today. I'll also get closer and examine it better. I was too tired yesterday from pulling all the bedstraw.

Here's a photo of the flower from the weed I'm talking about. I uploaded the photo to Google Images and it identified it as 'Day Flower' which is in the Spiderwort family. Here's the link at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center - https://www.wildflower.org/gal... My photo is below.

The flower is Commelina. Maybe someone can narrow down which one.

I agree, Commelina of some sort but I have no idea which one.

I think Tiffany @purpleinopp might be familiar with different varieties of Commelina, maybe she will recognize it or be able to offer suggestions.

Chris, upon googling and looking at pictures, it sure looks a lot like False Dayflower (Tinantia anomala) We have no photos in our database yet but check out the images from this Austin, Tx garden: http://www.zanthan.com/gardens...

Thanks Lin I would love to transplant some of this to my front yard under a large tree I have where nothing grows underneath it. I may go out after our expected rains this week and give it a try.

That is pretty! Much nicer than sorgham flowers. Is it a native?

Very nice! Never heard of this one. Take those two acorns for the first entry in the database. Looking forward to seeing it in full flower.
