This broke off my plant years ago I want to repot what kind of soil to use? What kind of plant is it also so I can read more about it.

Its been living in water for years? Does it have roots?

Maybe a Dracaena?

Looks like Yucca gigantea (aka Y. elephantipes, Y. guatemalensis). Best in a cactus soil mix.
