Bummer, excited about the greenhouses full of MCG semps, I thought I'd place my order tonight rather than wait until later. Of 26 semps I wanted to order, only 5 are "ready" and 21 are "Not quite ready", but there's no provision to place a complete order, one is not allowed to add semps in the "not quite ready" state. So I risk losing the few varieties ready now (because they'll sell out) while waiting for the majority of items to become available. I just want to place a simple single order, send to me when all are available, doesn't seem possible given the on-line order form. Their ordering system needs rethinking. Grrr. I don't want to bother people on a weekend, they need a day off too. So far I sent a "contact us" message and an email, but if I don't hear back Monday morning, I will indeed call them Monday afternoon. Avatar: Jovibarba x nixonii 'Jowan' I use #2 chicken grit to feed my hens & chicks :-) |

Heard back from Vince at Mountain Crest Gardens, confirming if a plant is marked as "not quite ready", it cannot be added into the cart. I suspect their FAQ that states: "Advance orders / delay shipment: You can order up to 6 months early. Provide delivery date in the comments box during checkout" is outdated, because there's no mechanisim in the online ordering system to facilitate early ordering. It was suggested that I send them my order list, and then they can advise when I can expect for those 21 varieties to become available, this is appreciated, I sent them my list. It was also suggested that I go into each variety that's marked as not quite ready, and "subscribe" to it by specifying my email address, and it'll send me an email when that variety is ready. I tried a couple times, in a couple different browsers, but that mechanism appears not to work, it displays an animated ellipsis for about a minute, I don't think it's doing anything. I reported that problem to Vince. Avatar: Jovibarba x nixonii 'Jowan' I use #2 chicken grit to feed my hens & chicks :-) |
They are really nice people to do business with. |

Yes, I've been messaging back and forth with Vince. They were aware that the "Subscribe" (to a plant) button was slow, but now I tested it on 2 different devices (one wired to internet directly, one wireless), 2 different operating systems (Win 8.1 & Win 10), on two different browsers, doesn't work anywhere, the function goes into an infinite loop. He'll be contacting their web developer. While I was there, I reported a couple other verifiable bugs in the spirit of constructive criticism (such as their Wish List not working properly), maybe their web folks can get these kinks worked out, it will certainly improve the functionality of their ordering process. Not sure what is wrong. I went and subscribed to two that are not ready right now. I am on Windows 10 and using Chrome browser. |

Hmm, I'm on Windows 10 + Chrome Browser too, the button goes into endless loop of ellipsis animation. I rarely have troubles with other web sites; I think the MCG web site makes too much use of cursor-tracking animations that run scripts in the background as one moves the mouse, these types of "widgets" on web pages can backfire. How quickly did the Subscribe button work for you, does it give some sort of message when it's successful? Possibly what it is doing when pressing that button is running an ActiveX script, such things are notoriously finicky with browser security settings, and possibly interacting with Anti-Virus software too, I use AVG. I could try from a third and forth computer (my wife and daughter's computers), but I suspect the same results. Egads this is sounding like and IT forum rather than a semp forum. Ordering from Youngs, Pans, PerObs, and SMG were all so easy by comparison. We'll see what get sorted out. Avatar: Jovibarba x nixonii 'Jowan' I use #2 chicken grit to feed my hens & chicks :-) |

ANtman, one thing about those other sites is that they only show what is currently available so you have no idea what plants they actually have for sale at any given time, MCG by doing their website the way they do - gives you their full catalog so you know what they have. I agree that it can be annoying not knowing when a plant will be available, but I do like seeing a nurseries full plant list! ![]() |
It worked right away. After clicking on the subscribe button it disappears. Just did it again. |
I agree Greg. |
AntMan01 Mar 26, 2018 4:24 PM CST |
Yes Greg, I can appreciate the difference. The problem is there's an Mountain Crest FAQ that indicates you can pre-order, but the reality is one cannot pre-order. To find out when 20+ semps that I want will be ready via notification, if the Subscribe button worked for me (it's not working), I'd have to go to each of 20+ individual cultivars and Subscribe and enter my email address (tedious), then eventually get 20+ email notifications, it seems clumsy at best if it were working. I would use the Wish List feature, but that does not work properly either, the items in the list are vastly spread out in space and go way off screen without any scroll controls to see all the items. To make the MCG shopping experience a better one, I'm taking the time to work with them to offer constructive criticism, it will help their business in the long run to work out these kinks. Update 3/29/2018: I received word from MCG today with availability status on my order, some plants are "parent stock plants" without any propagated for sale, one was available only for "plug trays", the rest are indicated as "available soon or throughout the summer". Switching gears, I think I spent more time on this one order than all of the previous 6 orders combined. I still need more plants to meet the spend $75 to get free shipping, so will add about 10 heuffelii cultivars that are available. PS: tried the "Subscribe" button on the MCG site from an apple iPAD (thus removing any possibility of Windows and/or Anti-virus thwarting the feature), it did not work. ![]() Avatar: Jovibarba x nixonii 'Jowan' I use #2 chicken grit to feed my hens & chicks :-) |

Order placed: added 11 heuffelii cultivars, was able to try the many discount codes and found one that works and saved almost $9, and got free shipping for exceeding $75 threshold. Man that was hard work, will report back later after receiving plants, I'm ready for them, spring has finally sprung. Good job Mark! In my experience MCG sends a single plant that is healthy and well rooted, but just one. I have found SMG to be the most generous, sending several good sized offsets. Good luck and yes please keep us updated! ![]() |

After placing the order, I hope for the best outcome. A survey asking about the ordering process followed, as usual I gave an honest assessment (constructive criticism) and reason why I couldn't offer a higher assessment. Glad you got things figured out Mark. I have always received healthy, ready to take off plants from MCG. I think you will be happy with the plants. |

Another road bump here, checking through the MCG receipt that gives me a list of what I ordered, I went through it and added to my Excel semp order form, and noticed that two cultivars that I ordered do not show up, equal to almost the same dollar amount saved by a MCG coupon ($8 something), so I will be scrutinizing what is actually delivered versus what I ordered. The MCG receipt is missing 'Rita Jane' & 'Starshine', what's up with that? I reviewed my MCG Cart before placing order, so there is indeed a discrepancy.
