I recently had our back patio redone and also added onto the driveway up front. Now I'd like to make a gravel walkway down the side between the two. Problem is, the patio and driveway are between 8 and 12 inches higher than the ground:

I'll also be replacing the fence later this year.

So my questions are:

Can I fill this side with 3/4 to raise it up and then top it with 1/4 for the walkway?

If so, what do I do along the fenceline? And what about the sprinkler valve boxes?

Any and all help or ideas is appreciated!

It looks as though the water runs off the roof into the area. Which direction is the natural drainage?

The water doesn't run off there, there is a slight settling from the new sprinkler lines. Natural slope is towards the front driveway.

This is unusual for me, but I'm not sure what problem you are trying to solve. Can you give us more details?
