Imagine my surprise this morning when I turned on my office lights and greeted my Hoya after being gone for 5 days. This vine has grown 8" and set a bud stem full of buds.

I've nurtured this beauty for 9 years without one bloom. Never moved it, never repotted it. Water once a week, Epsom salts (1/4 teaspoon to one gallon water) a couple of times in spring only.

Hurray! Congratulations!!!

Great growing, that is one really amazing Hoya! I would never consider re-potting, or changing the location of such a happy, healthy plant! Lovey dubby

You can promote more blooms by feeding with a fertilizer with a high middle number (phosphorus) but dilute it one quarter to one half of what is recommended on the package.

Yes, always in that office, on that windowsill. My clients are mesmerized by their size and I frequently share cuttings. I call them my goodwill ambassadors. Plus the oxygen in the room makes for a feel good day.

Yes it does! I noticed the scent before the blooms. I have them in my office in the winter months and haven't gotten them outside yet. When I came in the other day, the scent was almost overpowering. There are three blooms open right now.

I can hardly wait for mine to bloom, I think it will be soon, I will check the buds to see if there is a scent. This is my first bloom ever, looks like the buds are getting ready to open, but no scent yet. Hurray!

I just took this photo, when do you think it will open?

Hey Margaret - those buds will open the minute you turn your back !
Wondering, if this is a big plant - could there be other bud clusters?

Kathy, yes it is a fair size plant, I have looked carefully and I can not see any other bud clusters, I keep hoping to see some more soon. Crossing Fingers!

Photo was taken the end of January so it has gotten more growth since then.

Thanks Kathy. I was given the plant late last summer, since then I have gotten another one, it is smaller so I probably won't get any buds for quite some time..

I just fertilized my few hoyas the other day when I was out in the backyard. hopefully I will see some blooms this year ... mine are sporadic bloomers due to lack of care. They look pretty pitiful at the moment; they were put out in the backyard (one on the back porch) when we moved here almost six months ago and I've truly neglected them. I have a Hoya 'Ruthie' that was so beautiful in November (and blooming); it was outside the fence in the side yard and didn't get covered when we had a couple of real cold nights. Sad The older I get, the worse I get when it comes to proper plant care. Sighing!

Hoya, I can't remember which one and will have to look through my files in the
next few days to see if I can figure it out by leaves, or else I'll have to wait for blooms.

Margaret, you Hoya's look very happy and healthy! Love the snowy view out your window ... it's been like summer here the past few weeks, with highs in the mid to upper 80'sF.

Lin, your plants look pretty good, I hope you get lots of blooms this spring.

This has been a terrible winter, we had a dump of about 8 inches of snow on Easter Sunday, not much sign of spring so far, Angry good thing I have house plants to play with. Smiling
