Well our rain never happened and I really need rain to wash all the pine pollen off. The temps have really dropped since this morning and we are going to stay colder again. 80 on Monday and 44 projected by Saturday. I have 4 (!) stalks on Izitme Orizitu that I really hoped to see without frost damage since it was badly damaged last year. Sighing!

So to brighten the mood, this really cheerful little guy is the SDB Ray Jones. Not good form this year but a real bright spot nonetheless.

Could this one bloom for Easter? No, it decided to open bright and early the next morning. So close! Hilarious!

Very light blue markings on the falls makes this one really special. I got this in a Tommybox (like many you will see posted here). Thank You! I tip my hat to you.

It brought a friend too -

Gotta catch them all! Yep, it is those darn Pokemon. The biggest monster MDB you will ever find. Towers over my surrounding SDBs.

But they are darn cute, grow very well and bloom with gusto.
Thumb of 2018-04-05/Lestv/5aa8fb

My first bloom's veins were more brown, the later ones more green (or it is the lime green pine pollen!)

The clumps I am getting are really impressive this year.

Irish Harp continues to grow: Thumb of 2018-04-05/Lestv/c51e74

And little Shindig put out a bloom. By the second shot it had been open two days in hot sun and has faded.

Poor i Germanica. It has quite a few buds this year but just looks so floppy. It would look better with lusher foliage I think.

It isn't using the stake in the picture. We were suppose to have high winds so I put stakes out "just in case."

Okay, iris break!

This is a picture of my new hellebore, Anna's Red. It looks more impressive without the pollen. Think I am going to really like it.

And Gabe @Cuzz4short , here are some pansies for inspiration. Hilarious! Hilarious! Can't wait for you to start turning out some pansy faced plicatas!

With snow on the ground and 15 degrees this morning, I wonder if spring will ever get here. Loving your pictures! It gives me hope. Smiling

It will be cold here too this weekend (40's???). Maybe it is better for your iris for the cold to be constant instead of the wildly up and down temps we are getting. Lots of days with 20+ degree shifts - 81 then 56 then 78 then 60 then 45. Up and down. Every day it is warm all the buds try to hurry and bloom then they get blasted with cold halfway open.

They were predicting a low of 28 here this weekend but have raised it to 30. The mosquitoes are gonna hate it not to mention all the fruit on the trees. Glare The dogwoods are in full bloom and the mountains look like they have patches of snow on them. I guess that will be patches of brown next week. Cold outdoors today and i am bring houseplants back in. Hilarious! But Monday we are going to be in low 70's. crazy, crazy....

I have a lot of plants waiting to be planted but am afraid to pop them in the ground when it may freeze overnight.

Most people around here plant tender vegetation in late March especially if the prediction is for continued warmer weather. I hold to the old ways and know that in April and May we will have a cold spell. (April winter is called 'whippoorwill winter' because it happens when the whips make themselves known, and the May winter is called 'blackberry winter' because it always occurs when they are blooming). I wait until after Mid April and if we get a cold snap it will not be cold enough to kill tender vegetation. This is April 5 and they are predicting below freezing temps.... Blinking not just a mid 30's hard frost. Shrug!
DA.. darn it!

My un-official low this morning was 26*F. I have not turned a foot of soil in the veggy patch, and my onion plants are coming from Texas next Monday. Last year it snowed the day they came! Sad D'Oh! Wishing the best for everyone. Smiling
