Yep, very wet basement again. And it is indeed very windy here today. Maybe it will dry up some of the water.

Gee whizz, Leslie. Y'all are just getting beat all up and down the street with this rain! I feel you. It's rained here 4/7 days and even though it is looking clear for a while, I don't think, at least where I am, will stay "dry" this year. I have a hunch this year will be very wet like last year, but I don't think we'll worry about two hurricanes battering the east coast!

A news report for this year showed us that, for our area, the last FULL week of no rain was in July. D'Oh! And for back to back weekends of no rain was also in July. That just shows you how much rain we had. I'm sure it was worse for you, but altogether, we have had 5 and a half feet of rain for 2018, breaking the all time record for the wettest year here. The second wettest year was in the 1800s. *Blush*

Monty - And you heard that we are suppose to get a rain/snow (!) mix this weekend? Guess we will be staying wet for awhile more. Sighing!

Yikes. Can we simply have a few days/weeks without rain? I do want rain, but this is a bit ridiculous. Hilarious!

Sorry you guys are putting up with so much rain. We had another full day of rain today and snow/rain mix expected tomorrow. 50 degrees today, will drop to the teens tomorrow evening. Not liking all the huge pods of water that will freeze, makes for unsafe environment for the horses. I wish we could ship all this excess water where it's needed. Crying

I am so sorry for all of your water and freezing, too! Tom, please be careful in the slippery ice. Do you have "ice shoes" for the horses? Sticking tongue out

We're having a lot of rain here in N. CA, but I don't feel like I can complain about it after, months, years of moaning about the drought.
I'd like to see how much rain we 've had this past fall and now winter. Time for a new rain gauge!

I don't think I want to know anymore. The ground is so supersaturated that it is hard to get things done. You sink a bit on the way out to the LA bed. They are loving it though so I hope for a fantastic show this spring.

A friend who has a functioning rain gauge says since Oct 1 we've had 11 inches - but that seems a bit low to me.

Still a lot of rain Jan. Is this the rain started during the last round of fires?

Yes, Les. And I hear that there's some danger of landslides from the runoff from burned-over ground in some places.
Thankfully, the fires didn't get to us, but Chris covered any bare spots on the land with straw in advance of the rain to prevent any muddy run-off into the creek. Mill Creek is the jewel of our property, and we look forward to seeing salmon fry(babies) as some adults make it back to their spawning grounds.

So it was a nice dry 40+ degrees out today. Decided to go out and do some yard work before the wintry mix hit. I ran out of leaf bags (Durham requires us to use these large paper yard waste bags) so only got half the yard raked. I worked a bit more on weeding the now totally overgrow garden that was where most of my goners from rain used to live. Happy to report that I found another rhizome of Smiles Before Midnight, uncovered Kulu - which is doing very well, uncovered Maggie Beth and discovered a rhizome of Glacier Point. I planted Glacier Point 3 years ago and it has never bloomed. Maybe now that all it's neighbors are gone, it will take off. New goners were Sable Night Crying , and Lucy Doodle. Gaining momentum and growing are Osay Canuc, my Jungle Shadows seedling, and many of the potted rescues.

Right at the point when it was getting darker out and my fingers were getting too cold to continue it started sleeting. Guess nature wants me out of the garden! Hilarious!

You too Will, though I guess your area is just getting the cold rain part? As if that is better... Hilarious!

Yes Leslie, just cold rain but lots of it! We did manage to dry up a bit with the dry weather and wind of the past week.
