I've tried locating a source S.pittonii, MCG gardens have a plant labeled Sempervivum arachnoideum 'Pittonii'. It's not the same plant.

I know of a seed source (wild collected, thus true). I was very excited about possibly ordering wild seed of various Jovibarba, Sempervivum, Sedum and Rosularia, had an order made up, but then never sent it... I'm so backlogged with seed that I decided that as enticing as it was, to focus on buying plants instead. I did contact them to see if they can sell & ship seed to the US, and the response was yes.

Looking at this list again, renews pangs of lust seeing these beautiful wild forms, such as the short flowering stem montanum types, the ciliosums, and that pittonii! Pictures do enlarge on this site, enjoy.

By the way, sometimes the nurseries get a little casual with their naming conventions, there is a hybrid between arachnoideum x pittonii that's been a standard item in semp nurseries for years, here it is at Perennial Obsessions clearly labeled as a cross:
https://perennialobsessions.co...

It seemed curious to me how MCG listed S. arachnoideum 'Pittonii', as if a latinized cultivar name, it could be a grammatical error.

Lynn, your photo has me thinking and doubting that what I have as pittonii is correct, so my plant probably becomes a NoID. I did indeed have pittonii many years ago, along with S. zeleborii, and in 2000 I made a cross between the two, here's a pot full of unseparated seedlings. After the subsequent years of crazy work madness, I might have lost positive ID on both species, and will need to get them again. Sempervivum pittonii is a wonderful species, and I need to be sure of having the correct plant.

Pot of S. pittonii x zeleborii seedlings, photo from 2002, cross made in 2000. I no longer have any of these hybrids, all were lost over the years.

Mark are yours still under snow? Do you have an older photo of your pittonii? Remember we have different growing conditions and can see some variation because of that.

The seedlings are sweet. Smiling

Snow is gone now, and we had a few true spring-like days. Tomorrow brings big changes, fog & rain up to 62F but by night down into upper 20s F, then several days of snow/rain into the weekend. Both MCG & Youngs orders are likely to arrive tomorrow, will keep them in my basement until this cold snap ends.

LOL, older photos of pittonii were probably on SLR 35mm slides, which I have given up on. I regret not separating out two similar pots full of these crosses for evaluation, but then again I was away from my home 12-14 hrs per day, ultimately all died languishing in overcrowded pots. So, I added S. pittonii as a "must have" in my plant list, because I can't trust the plant I have now under this name, it doesn't match.
