Save me some searching, if you would. ![]() ![]() Need two very special daylilies -- if I can find the perfect ones, they'll represent my folks in the oval in my front yard, aka the memorial garden (I created it with money from selling the folks' house after they passed). Dad was a Marine in Korea, had a USMC skunk tattooed on his arm, was called "sweet william" by his AmVet Post's honor guard members (he was in their honor guard even though he was handicapped by a stroke). ![]() Mom collected ducks, her favorite flower was the peace rose, and her grandkids called her "grandma duck." ![]() Are there any daylilies out there called sweet william? Any red/gold ones? I know there are lots of duck daylilies (learned that last week at the cobb county meeting - the duck guy was there, talking about his gorgeous daylilies). But he doens't have one called grandma duck. There's a "mother duck" and a "lady duck" and those are possibilities. But is there a daylily that has the colors of a peace rose? Discuss amongst yourselves -- I'll be the one listening in. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks! ![]() Northwest Georgia Daylily Society I'm going to retire and live off of my savings. Not sure what I'll do that second week. My yard marches to the beat of a bohemian drummer... |

Have you checked out the AHS database? The advanced search might have the answers you want. You do not have to be an AHS member to use it http://www.daylilies.org/Dayli... I found 2 with Sweet William in the name: Sagamore Sweet William hybridized by Britz in 2001, and Sweet William hybridized by Norris in 1989. Also, search for other patriotic type names (I am starting a patriotic bed this year & have found names that reflect military themes) I found 53 cultivars with "duck" in the name - although none called Grandma Duck. At a quick glance, I found one called Dances With Ducks by Eller, 2010 that is pink. Eller seems to have most of the registrations with "duck" in them Hope this helps ~Jan |

Did a search for daylilies with Peace in the name and colorways that are at least in the same family as the Rose. These four are commercially available: Grace, Peace and Love ![]() Courtesy of Hoot Owl Nursery Inner Peace Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Inner Peace') Let There Be Peace Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Let There Be Peace') Peace be With You Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Peace Be with You') It’s okay to not know all the answers. |

I want everyone to know that Mary (fiwit) is a WIZ at all things electronic. She is a computer guru and also knows about cameras and tape recorders. We had a daylily meeting today. Mary who is one of our newest members got our video camera working. She also got the new digital recorder that came in the mail yesterday to taping. I know nothing. At least David came up with the idea to try this. Mary knew exactly what to do and had both set up for use in a matter of minutes. Thanks to Mary, we were able to video tape and record the panel discussion that was our program. Mary, we sure are glad that you joined our club! BTW Mary, we stopped by Radio Shack and got a memory card reader. Right now we are watching the panel discussion on our computer! We can now make this available to members who were not present at the meeting or show it at a future meeting a year or two from now when we need a program. THANK YOU, MARY! Mary...I'm a newbie too and am not sure how to send my pic of a daylily seedling of mine out of WHITEBASE that reminds me of my Mother's Peace Rose..love that rose! Actually I have two that remind me of Peace Rose and the second one is my seedling out of ANGEL'S BRAID and my own seedling on the other side...![]() ![]() Enjoying God's creation, one leaf at a time blog: www.gardensandcastles.blogspot.com |

Mary..here's another Peace Rose wannabe daylily seedling, but it has a bit of a color twist....instead of pink hues it has orange hues...the cross is PIZZA CRUST X WILD CHILD. I always like to see the genetics in a cross if possible(since I do hybridize) so I am including it for the others that may be curious....![]() Enjoying God's creation, one leaf at a time blog: www.gardensandcastles.blogspot.com |

good, good, good...that's how I felt about it too! So you think it reminds you of the Peace Rose in coloring? I am going to try to upload the parents so you can see how different the two are..thats why I like hybridizing SO MUCH! The first one is Stamile's WHITEBASE and I used it's pollen for this cross..and the second one is my RUFFLED STRAWBERRY PARFAIT kid, I nicknamed "Big Sis" and "she" was the pod parent..such a combination to give me that seedling..never expected it but really like it..I gardennamed it "Pristine" thanks for your neat comment!! CORRECTION: I nicknamed the 2nd one (of the first 3 that I showed) "Pristine" The one that Mary likes so well hasn't gotten a garden name yet..but I can hardly wait to see it this summer!!! Enjoying God's creation, one leaf at a time blog: www.gardensandcastles.blogspot.com |
