Greg, did they get caught outside on a frosty night? Avatar: Jovibarba x nixonii 'Jowan' I use #2 chicken grit to feed my hens & chicks :-) |

Oh man, sorry about that! Often the plants will bounce back even from something like this. I'd try and keep them where it won't freeze (which hopefully your weather is on the way to NOT having anymore freezes this year! They will need bright shade while they repair, and then slowly put them in the sun once you see them bouncing back. These are pretty resilient plants, and often they look worse then they are! ![]() |

Guess the eves of the house didnt offer enough shelter. Back to the garage. Entomologist |
Oh no. Did all of your new ones do this? Which cultivars froze? What were the temps? Make sure the soil isn't wet. They have a better chance if the soil is dry. ![]() |

Utopian, Fire Dragon, Larissa and Blue Boy took it worse. Back into garage 18 degrees tomorrow night Entomologist |
I know I've had problems with 'Fire Dragon', but never 'Blue Boy'. |

I lost my Blue Boy this winter. Everything else in the same place did very well. My Blue Boy is completely dead. :( Handcrafted Coastal Inspired Art SeaMosaics! |

I've had 'Blue Boy" for approximately 10 years planted in a shallow flat sitting on the ground, never has shown any winter problems, it's swelling up and looking good right now, even though we've had a terrible rollercoaster winter and now spring-that's-still winter. Karen, your 'Blue Boy' may need a bit more protection from your harsh NM summer sun, and maybe a bit more water during dry time. |

I don't know, Lynn. It did just fine all summer in morning sun. I may have not watered quite enough during our unusually dry winter. When I first planted it, the birds took about half of my 3 plants. I replanted the remains, and thought they were doing great. Handcrafted Coastal Inspired Art SeaMosaics! |

Wow, those are interesting Greg. Will they have a tendency to blow over in high winds? |

My troughs are arranged on several benches, I believe if I tied off to the benches the weight of bench and troughs will keep them secure.![]() Entomologist |

Wind will probably be the worst problem, Greg. Make sure they are tied down well. If you want lots of good ideas, come join our Hobby Greenhouse Growers Assn. https://www.hgga.org/ Handcrafted Coastal Inspired Art SeaMosaics! |

Great, Greg. It looks like you're a member now. I see Tim there too! It's a pretty new group but growing well. It's owned and run by Moonshadows from this site. Handcrafted Coastal Inspired Art SeaMosaics! |

Forecast freezing rain tonight, the semps have taken some hits from the ice this winter, going to try putting some plastic trash bags over the semps to see if they can get some protection for the next few days. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. |
Oh no. Rj good idea about using some kind of cover. Keep us posted. |
