Tina - Here is a DIFFERENT cross I have using Galaxy Explosion.

This cross is ZZZ38 (Galaxy Explosion x Lily Munster):
Thumb of 2018-04-11/beckygardener/d7490e

The cross produced a bloom that I didn't expect because it didn't have the eye pattern of GE. Unfortunately, as cool as the bloom looks, the scapes are ridiculously short. Bloom is 7" and the scape is only 12" tall. Not a preferred look. But I've kept this one for a couple of years because I want to cross it with another daylily with taller scapes and better bud count. I may cross it with my CCC03 which is taller and has a great bud count but a bloom that isn't as outstanding or unusual.

So what I know about GE is that the eye pattern doesn't necessarily carry over to it's children. Which is why this unknown bloom of GE x WO may prove to also be unexpected and interesting. I hope it opens tomorrow.

I have to tell y'all that blooms DO CHANGE over the period of 3 years. Some improve while others do not. And some don't change at all. It is all an unknown unless you have a history with a particular stable parent that throws consistent traits.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us.

I have used Galaxy Explosion and have an introduction (Windswept Brick Town) and some very nice seedlings from it that are under evaluation for other possible introductions.
I like your cross and expect that you could see something nice from it. Thumbs up
I think you will get a large yellow flower with a dark eye in mostly full form and a partial edge.
Am I cheating if I say similar to one of my Galaxy Explosion seedlings? Yours may not have quite as large of an eye but could have more edge.
Thumb of 2018-04-11/kidfishing/9ad7a8

I have or had some Lily Munster seedlings and they were so short even blooming down in the foliage and the other parent was over 3'.
I will say that everything that has bloomed from my GE crosses have been a surprise to me. And I have some really good bud counts from GE with a few over 20, one with over 30, and another with more than 50.

Terry - That is beautiful! Lovey dubby

Do you mind sharing what the other parent of that cross is?

Galaxy Explosion has a great bud count and a strong scape. And it is rust resistant here. All good qualities! Thumbs up

That is the surprise. It is a lavender with a blue eye and I would have to check for sure but it is either Natures Blue Waves x Nikki Schmith or Blue Oasis x Nikki Schmith.
I know this is about your seedlings but look at a few sibs to the one above.
Maybe this will be encouragement to you and those using Galaxy Explosion. I think it has interesting breeding potential. I really want to make some crosses with it's kids. And you will also be able to do that.

Terry - Some very outstanding potential genetic characteristics! Most impressive indeed! Thanks for sharing those children photos! All of them are very attractive in my opinion! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

I just had to go peek outside with a flashlight to see if the bud is opening. I could see the bud starting to open ever so slightly. I was able to see some darker coloring on the underside of the yet to open petals, so that tells me some darker patterning appears evident. I love these kind of surprises! Like opening a present at Christmas!

Dennis - How did you do the overlay photos? It is interesting how very close you were to what this bloom produced!

Terry - You were right! Thumbs up

What I see with this bloom ....

I see both parent's petal forms. I see the coloring of Wild One with a lighter eye pattern of Galaxy Explosion.

Quite nice! Now I can only wonder if the blooms will change over time or remain stable.

I look forward to seeing the first bloom on it's sibling soon! I think that one will have the form of Galaxy Explosion with a similar coloring and eye pattern as this one. We shall see ....

I really like it! I love that it takes its coloring after Wild One. I just may have to get WO to add to my breeding program!

Here are several seedlings that I got from Galaxy Explosion X Fireworks Display. That's why I guessed it would have the eye from GE. You can see on the third image there quite a few buds. These are all first year blooms.

Thanks Sue for posting your GE children of a different cross. The eye does seem to be a trait that is passed on to it's children. Thumbs up

That last one is a gorgeous bloom, Sue!

I wish we had an entire forum for cross breeders. This is fun and I feel I am missing out on other people who also cross breed. At least the title of this thread let me know so I was able to follow you. Hurray! Thank You! I tip my hat to you.

It's always fun to see a new seedling bloom. BUT it's even more fun to try and guess while in its bud state. What a fun game.

Thanks to all for the encouraging comments! Thank You! Thank You!

One of it's siblings will probably bloom tomorrow. That one has narrow, longer petals. Probably will have more of a form like GE.

Christie - I agree that it is fun to see what other hybridizers are growing. I find crossing plants to be such an interesting and intriguing topic! Thumbs up

This seedling's first bloom was similar in coloring of it's sibling. But the form was more like GE. The scape height was disappointing, but am hopeful it will increase with maturity and age.

Becky,
I like it with the edge from Wild One and rust resistance of GE. Thumbs up

Here is another reason, why I think I should use Galaxy Explosion a little more.
Here is Windswept BrickTown (Ashton's 2017 intro)
40" tall and registered with 25 buds but that is about the least it has.

Galaxy Explosion x Magic Of Oz (Both pics are the same daylily)
This first pic looks like the first time we saw it bloom in 2013 and both of us were grabbing a flag to mark it.
Thumb of 2018-04-14/kidfishing/02aa61
Thumb of 2018-04-14/kidfishing/a1cae7

We have 2 sibs to the one above but I could not find pics. One is mostly green with over 50 buds and the other is a very dark purple spider. Looking at them one would not guess they were sibs.
