She really was a character. Walked to church every Sunday. It was great when the city forced her out of the family home ONLY because she moved into a house that was four houses away from our church. She cooked at all the church gathering (most Armenian foods are very labor intensive). She lived in the garden mores than the house.

I loved her old house downtown with the 12 foot ceilings. It was ≈8 steps up to the porch that wrapped around 2 sides of the house. When we weren't cooking, we were out in the garden. She had 3 huge lemon trees with gigantic lemons. One lemon would make a half gallon of the best lemonade you ever tasted. The grapefruit were the size of melons. There were 2 rows ≈25-30 ft long of berries, 1 raspberries the other blackberries. At the end of each row was a huge patch of chives. There were also roses, camellias, a big patch of tall batchelor buttons. snapdragons and violets. Up against the front porch was a fruit tree that was an unknown cross that tasted like a plum/apricot? Who knows? I just remember that they were delicious. On the other side of the porch was a very, very large loquat with huge fruit, again, delicious!

I miss those days in the garden. I'm so happy that 2 of my nieces have homes with lots of fruit trees and room to garden. It's a joy to watch all my grandnieces working and playing amongst the trees and flowers. Also glad they have drip irrigation. It would take hours to water grandma's yard, or were we playing at watering ourselves more than the plants.
