Oh! I forgot to list the seedlings from Sunday ....

CCC05 (Laughing Clown x Zanti Misfit) - This bloomed 2 years ago for the first time, but did not bloom last year. It has the smaller bloom that I am doing some breeding toward, but it is not a cute little mini bloom.

CCC82 - (Buddy Hudson x Unknown) This one has improved over the past 2 years. It first bloomed in 2016. It didn't bloom last year. And is now blooming this year. I was surprised at the massive ruffles!

And I just have to post a couple more bloom photos of my future intro, just because of what this seedling's blooms do, which cracks me up:

Just to show that some seedlings just need to be tossed! This is actually a bit improvement over last year...but still just nothing worth growing here.

Last year: Really looked weird, then all the other buds just fell off. So this one will be gone making space for something else.

Only a newbie like me to growing plants from seeds would have kept this plant at all I think. Hopefully as I get more experience and grow more plants I will not hang on to plants like this.

Ah, I'm a softie and only remove them if I need the space. I tossed my first two last year. One consistently bloomed in the foliage (same as one of the parents D'Oh! ) and the other was just horrible in form (garden name: headless chicken). I still have my very first seedling although it isn't really special. Not sure I'm ever going to part with it just because it was first. Smiling

Fred - Love your HB09-17! Thumbs up Lovey dubby

Larry - Hilarious! Hilarious! I can relate! I have had some not so pretty seedlings too! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Some more of my seedlings bloomed for the first time this season, but have bloomed in previous seasons too.

CCC15 (Drink the Light x God Save the Queen):

Bloom:

The bud count has improved and bloom has remained stable over 3 years. I just wished it was a little bit taller, but it's folliage isn't real tall, so the scape height may not be a problem. I really love the dark purple color with a hint of white ruffle/teeth.

Here is a Pedigree chart I made in 2016 for CCC15:
Thumb of 2018-04-25/beckygardener/9cd0f1

Now here is today's bloom photo of CCC107 (a sibling seedling of CCC15):
Thumb of 2018-04-25/beckygardener/602780

So I could place this photo in the same pedigree chart:

Just goes to prove how different sibling seedlings can look!

CCC16 (Second bloom this season) Parentage is unknown, but I believe it has Bird Talk in it.

And I wanted to show the second bloom on TTT23. (I really like this bloom. It is rather flat-faced, rounded, and very colorful.):

So, I decided to try my luck at growing daylilies from seed on my balcony in Miami Beach. Starting in January of 2017, I germinated several crosses purchased off the auction. I continued the process of germinating and planting in larger and larger pots throughout the year, learning as I went and gaining tremendous information from this site. Thank You for all of your help.
The plan was to start them here in Florida and then eventually plant in my Mother's garden in Iowa. I will be taking my first 40 seedlings back with me next week for planting.

Not knowing when or if these would even bloom in my unique growing environment, I was surprised with a lone scape poking through the ever growing foliage that has taken over my balcony. Interestingly this was not the oldest cross, but one germinated in late July 2017.

Thumb of 2018-04-26/joelsted/9c2c54

And now I wait on pins and needles as my first bloom looks ready to burst. This was a cross made by Cassa of Portofino X Admiral's Blush.

Joel, I don't know if it will be darker than the parents, but definitely want to see a picture of it when it blooms! The parents are gorgeous and the seedling looks like it is going to have good branching.

Also, I couldn't help but notice what a beautiful view you have from your balcony Thumbs up

I start them in 3.5" squares, then 5" squares during months 4-6, then finally finish in 7x7 square by 9 inches deep. These are reported to be about 1.3 gallon in volume. I could probably bypass the 5" pots, but they fit so much better in standard trays and space is always a concern on the balcony.

Thumb of 2018-04-26/joelsted/9c735f

The photo above may help. This is still completely an experiment. Just sharing what has worked so far. It is my suspicion that larger pots may work better if planning to keep them potted for much longer than a year.

I should note that the germinating seeds in my first photo posted were a cross purchased from the original author of this post, Mr. Fred Manning. That cross has been exceptional with 100% germination and beautiful 6 month old seedlings shown in the below photo. They are in the 7 inch pots and about a foot tall. These are The Ultimate Sacrifice X Vision of things to come. Hope to have blooms in the next few months.

Seedlings SSS123, SSS56, and SSS68 are my own seedling crosses! It's quite fun to cross your own seedlings with each other! And you will also note that those 3 crosses have Dragonfly Dawn in them. Which is a cultivar I am drawn to, but I am discovering that it may show rust here in the south, which goes against my breeding program unfortunately.
