So I THOUGHT I was planting a Kouza dogwood seed and have been nurturing up - but I'm now completely bewildered. Leaves don't look like a dogwood. Dear Hubby is calling it a "weed tree" and making fun of me. Deciduous, new growth recently emerged. Pics attached. Trying to decide whether to keep it or compost it.

I agree, that's a lovely Crepe Myrtles (Lagerstroemia) Maybe hubby won't consider it a "weed" tree when he sees the beautiful blooms! Crepe's come in shades of red, pink, white, lavender:
