Did some browsing on the internet trying to find ealiest mention of Semps aka house leeks aka Chicken and Hens or Chicken and Widdies.

Found these two interesting posts
The practice of planting roofs with houseleeks was preserved for historians when Charlemagne (720-814), first Holy Roman Emperor and unifier of a large part of northern Europe, ordered that all villagers within his crown lands plant houseleeks on their roofs, presumably as a safety measure. He decreed: Et ille hortulanus habeat super domum suam Iovis barbam. (And the gardener shall have house-leeks growing on his house. Capitulare de villis, about 795, LXX.) Note Charlemagne actually used the name Jove's--Jupiter's--beard.

Sempervivum tectorum was described in 1753 by Linnaeus, who noted that its leaves are ciliate, that is, fringed with hairs

Also posted to a blog my info found on some early hybrids and it looks like the earliest I found on the resource link I used, was :
87.'Alpha' ... GEORG ARENDS (DE), 1927 or 1929 ? ... SEMPERVIVUM (S. ARACHNOIDEUM × TECTORUM)

I said (a month and a half ago) I'd make a list of the semps Helen Payne listed in her Plant Jewels of the High Country (1972). I thought if not heirloom they might at least be considered "vintage" (whatever that might mean). I had a vacation last week and finally got around to it. So with apologies for the lateness, here it is.

I have no idea of what is heirloom or historic, but it's very interesting to see the semps that were around then. Thank you for taking the time to post them @dulcimore11!

Thanks, I would call those vintage.
I should have looked at my copy of her book. Great resource.
