As potted plants, Gardenias are very fussy and difficult. Once in bud, cool temps in the 55-65 degree range are very important. Repotting, fertilizing and relocating a Gardenia while it is in bud will cause the buds to blast or fall off prematurely. Of course, so will improper watering and too much or not enough light. The most common reason for bud blast is temps that are too high.

When kept as foliage plants, they are not nearly as fussy. They just need moderately bright indoor light and a thorough watering about once per week. Bonsais do need regular pruning to maintain their carefully cultivated shape.

Thanks Will, the only thing I'm probably doing wrong is adding Epsom salt to the water I'm using to spray leaves and watering around the trunk base!...2 tbsp. to a gallon of water is the ratio I'm using! The plant looks very healthy except for the falling off buds!
I'm going to try using just plain water and update you with result. I really do appreciate your suggestions

Don't spray the plant when it is in bud; not with plain water and certainly not with Epsom salts.

Oh ok,that's good to know! I was reading through the bonsai care that came with the plant and it said spray leaves but since it's not that humid yet where I live then I should just leave it alone but once a week watering with plain water! Thanks
