I am quite a good gardener but had no luck growing a passion plant. Just general growing advice?

I have grown a couple about three years ago. They did very well without much care except watering once a week. Mine bloomed and looked fantastic. My trouble was when the butterfly arrived was happy to see so many in my area which is not very often. They lay there eggs and out comes the caterpillar and they just devour the vine in a matter of days. Then the birds discover the caterpillars and they are devoured. But have two again this year well worth the effort for the beautiful blooms. Good luck and don't give up. They have such a beautiful flower.
