Some sort of melon, squash or cucumber. Did they pop up in your compost?

You'll be able to tell better what they are once another set of leaves grow.

Welcome!

Squash, cucumber, melon or something similar.

Cotyledons are more difficult to ID. When it gets some true leaves, someone should recognize. At this point, my thought is that it may be some kind of cucurbit.

Yeah, it may be a cucurbit but it may not be. Any seeds which are (roughly) shaped like a cucumber's seeds will have cotyledons this way, not just cucurbits themselves.

There are 90+ genera in that family. 3 people thought the seedlings were in that family, maybe 4, if I understood the last comment more clearly.

Joe, you may remember what should or could be sprouting and have ID'd by now, but if they are still a mystery, you can add more pics to this discussion when they have grown some true leaves.

I sometimes look at this site (a good rainy day activity) in an attempt to ID thinks that pop up in the yard/garden/compost. http://theseedsite.co.uk/seedl...

I agree it's best to wait for the first true leaves to attempt an ID.
