I will post pix later after I start taking plants outside for the summer. My guess = 850? Still too early here. I have some 3" deep patches of snow hiding in the shady woods. I used to use a series of tarps connected, in part, to my house and/or back porch to keep the direct sun and rain off most of the plants. This year I am changing. Just ordered the 2nd one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...

Biggest worry is having it blow away in the wind but I have some good ideas on preventing that. Gene

I'd love to have something like that for extra plant protection, but I know we're too windy. Our average winds are around 25mph. I imagine it would be ripped or gone in less than a week.

Gee, I hope you are running many windmills. The entire area around my house is protected on all 4 sides by 50 foot tall pine trees. I get little wind, thank goodness. If that was not the case, I'd have windmills for sure. Wisconsin has a law that the power company is required to buy any electricity a homeowner can make. I have a few solar panels but nothing too serious. Just connected to 4 large wheelchair batteries that can provide back up power if needed. But I stray once again. Gene

Serious plant shelter for the serious plant aficionado!
I have a couple-3 dozen plants, have put about half out last few days it's finally mild at night. Against a wall with partial day of sun.

Gene, your plants will love the protection from the elements and you can get them outside sooner. I agree that's serious shelter and way less expensive than a greenhouse. Thumbs up

I have the first one erected. Good thing I have lots of Tylenol on hand. I am still attaching things to it to keep it from blowing away. OK, so far. 2nd one arrives Tuesday. Going to be a while before I can put plants out so that will be a good test period. Gene

We had over 2" of rain last night. Wind gusts over 40. A great test. My carport is just fine. Lots of weights and anchors helped I am sure. I see one night of 40F in the 10 day forecast. Just set the record for the coldest April on record here. I will start moving plants outside today. My 2nd carport arrived but is still in the box. Gene

We're supposed to have 31 overnight. This is ridiculous for May! Other years I've put plants out by the end of March and they've been fine. I will have to cover things tonight. :(

OK, pix while it is still empty. On the north side of my porch ( which is on the east side of my house) I have a shade tarp. Where some of the tropical plants summer. Rain, no direct sun, security and protection from wind and deer. Carport is north of that. Not attached to house. 10' x 20', 6' high side walls, 9' high peak. For succulents = no rain. I am probably gong to refer to it as Hilton #1. #2 is still in the box waiting for my back to give it the go ahead. Gene

I think I will declare my first car port full. About 1/3 of my succulents. Gene

Not in my original plan but it might work: tropical plants on shady north side of car port. 3 possible issues - Sun is still getting higher, not sure how much the sides are flapping, dealing with extra water running off roof. Gene

Gene, I bet your amazing collection of plants will be very happy in their new "Plantports"! Lovey dubby

What a great idea that is! I think you should send Abba Patio Company a photo, showing them that their product can be used for something other than just a portable garage/carport! Green Grin!

I'm exhausted even thinking about the work it takes, moving so many plants in and out with the seasons ... GREAT job! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up
