Dahlias slugs and snails
Usually slugs and snails have not been a huge problem in my garden or the things I've used have worked. But I have a challenge now. My dahlias are sending up tender little innocent shoots that are being totally munched to the ground at night and they are not having a chance at becoming the tall beautiful plant they are destined to be. If I am using a bait, I am used to metaldehyde or iron phosphate but at the moment I've been using ortho bug getta Someone picked up for me, and the snails just seem to crawl over it and munch away. I just looked on the container and it has sulfur as it's active ingredient! Is my problem just that sulfur is much milder than the other two? I want to go to the nursery and get whatever is the strongest I can for these little localized areas where the shoot is just starting to come up. Any suggestions on my best bet? I live in the central valley in California.
