That is a gorgeous camellia. Is it yours and growing in East TN? I'm in Mid TN a little south of Nashville. What variety is it?

Yes, it's growing NE of Knoxville in a somewhat protected area (SE of Clinch mountain, ridge & valley system, on a down-hill slope, in a clearing in a wooded area). I've got it right next to the house, western exposure. I figured the heat from the house might tip it over the "hardy in TN" edge, and it seems to have done the job. Every year, there's a concern that the buds will freeze because they're set and ready to open during the warm spells in between the multiple late freezes. A couple of years have had just a few open flowers, but some years (including this year) the display is wonderful. Sorry - I don't know what the variety it is or even remember where I picked it up. Possibly at a woody plant specialist. I love it. I'd go ahead and try one where you are--you're probably even warmer than we are.

Thanks for your reply. I do plan to find as close an approximation to yours as I can. Is that the only Camellia you grow? I would also like to see a closeup photo of its blooms if you ever get the chance.
Right now I have some Tea plants I raised from seed this winter. I'm hoping they will be hardy here.

Yes, it's the only one I've got. All the blooms are, of course now that you're asking, gone now, and the pictures I've got don't do close ups justice. I'll find out if my friend has any on his phone, and if so, I'll add one. Otherwise, it'll be (hopefully) next year. I know nothing about camellias, other than one time I saw the display at the right time in the Doris Duke garden in Durham, and remembered how beautiful they were. Thus, I bought this when I had the chance. If there's a way to layer it or something, I could try for you. But I'm sure there are plenty of red ones out there similar or better that you could get.
