I am not sure what these are. They are very thick looking. To me (a non-expert) they look a lot like cannas, being this is northern Ohio I do not think that is the case.
I also see some differences from cannas.

No problem. I grow lots of them. I know some folks have good luck with overwintering cannas up here but I haven't been brave enough to try it.
