Hi all!
I'm in Maryland...zone 7....and I'm a novicečśö. Looking at the section of discoloration on this Magnolia tree. Does this mean trouble for my tree? Should I have that section pruned from the tree, or just let it be? Thanks!

Welcome!

Crawl into your tree and see what you can see. Broken branch? Insect damage? If you can't find anything in the branches to give you a clue, check the trunk of the tree on that side looking for damage (gets hit by the lawn mower? Insects? Tree trunk damage of some sort). Its important to figure out why before you decide what to do.

Great suggestions...I've checked and no damage I can see...even the limbs that the discolored leaves are on are not damaged. We've had a rough winter, maybe that's part of the cause...just gonna watch it over the next couple of months. Thanks for your suggestions!

Those limbs look completely dead to me. You can scratch the bark with your fingernail to see if the stem with dead leaves is green but I doubt it will be. That doesn't look like leafburn to me.
If the stems/branches are dead just cut them out. Sometimes tree branches just die for varying reasons.
