I'm back! I ordered my new computer on Saturday, and it arrived last night. Wow, love this new HD monitor. Lightning struck near here and blew out the mother board on my old one. Bad part was I hadn't backed up any of the pictures from this years bloom season to a thumb drive, so it's good that they are on here so I can get them. All of the seedling pictures were lost however, so I'll have to wait for next year. The lightning also took out my phone, and it took that wonderful AT&T 8 days to get here to fix it. It sure got my blood pressure up trying to deal with the idiot from the other side of the world who could hardly speak English to understand that I was not going to get the modem to work by rebooting it. Finally I asked him if he knew what lightning was, and that my modem was fried, and said either schedule some one to come and fix it, or connect me to his supervisor. He did then finally. What an experience. Glad to be back, and now it will take me all month to catch up Smiling

Welcome back Tom Thumbs up .

If it is just your mother board that got sizzled, your hard disk and your images are probably still intact. A computer repairer or a tech savvy friend should be able to get your images off your disk for you.

Plants SuperMod

Welcome back, Tom! I empathise regarding the phone and IT service desk issues... they're just as bad here in Australia!

Quite possible. It really depends on how much electricity hit the PC and which part of the circuitry failed. If it reached the motherboard (and not just the power supply), then the odds are not in favour of the disks, I'm afraid. If they're the typical hard disks (not SSDs), then if there is data of particular value, companies do exist that can retrieve data from damaged drives (they will replace the damaged control circuitry and try to access the disk platters).

I was in the barn when the lightning strike hit, it was the loudest explosion I've ever heard. Sparks were flying all over the place, and the horses were all frightened. I think it hit the electric fence as my fence charger exploded into bits. Probably followed the insulated wires to the charger which is grounded. But I'm glad nothing worse happened.
