I am looking for a unique tree for my front yard: zone 8A, full sun. Should be about medium size. 25-30 ft. I just want something different from your typical dogwood, maple, etc that is around every corner, since it will be the only one in my yard. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks! Smiling

Here's a good link to trees native to Alabama. Talks about what's overused, what will cause problems and what could work for you.

You need a Firmiana simplex. Or an Idesia polycarpa - er, make that two (a male and a female) since they are dioecious.

There are hundreds of Ilex species - Holly trees - that no one in your neighborhood has. Ditto to big Viburnum species.

Or did you want to narrow down the kind of plant you are really looking for...

Thanks! I will take a look at these. Not looking for anything specific, just something different and good for full sun.
