I live in Florida and these keep flying around outside of my house. I just started seeing them since its the beginning of May. Somtimes they get in the house and can be annoying

It looks like a Cicada to me. Harmless to people. Don't know about plants.

It's a beetle of some kind, maybe a June beetle if they are flying around the house lights at night. There's a picture of one, third beetle down on this page:
