Kelvasha: Yes, there is an Herb forum, which is a good place to discuss the uses or care of particular herbs. Within the database itself, under the plant data, there is a check box for Medicinal Use and other boxes for edible parts of the plant. I use the comment section of the database to add further information of the herbs I grow. See https://plants.usda.gov/growth... for explanation of various plant growth habits. Our database includes the option of herb/forb under Plant Habit. Essentially, an herb/forb is a non-woody vascular plant that is not a grass. I have specific categories in my personal plant list for Medicinal, Aromatic, and Edible which makes it easy for me to sort/select for everything I am currently growing that has one of those properties. Some of my plants fall into all three categories. I would also note that many of the other plant habits (trees, vines, shrubs, etc.) also have medicinal or culinary properties, which is what many folks associate with the word herb. In the herb forum, there is a discussion about how to manage our own personal herbs, which may interest you. The thread "How do you track potential uses of various herbs" in Herbs forum I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned. |

Thanks a lot for the information quercusnut and Bonehead. I would like to visit the NGA web site more often but I keep busy with the Master Gardeners and my garden at home is big too. I also have my husband and my mother who live with me. I also care for my granddaughter who is five years old....thanks God she will start school in August. I will visit the herb forum soon as I have a chance. I grow many herbs including Tilo which I found here in Florida recently and I know about it since I was a child. I am growing it in a container in the shade. I still need to study about it further. Kevalsha |
