Hello! I have just moved into a new house and we have a pathetic looking crepe myrtle out front. Everything I read says I should only prune in late winter before leaves come in. Is there anything I can do now to help revive it?

Cut it back to the ground. Most of the top growth is dead and you have fresh growth coming from the ground. You won't hurt anything by doing that now and it will look better also.
