I got a Shishigashira Japanese Maple two weeks ago and had it re-planted in a wine barrel planter.

I see the color of the trunk is a bit brownish and can't tell if this is normal or if it has some disease/soil issue or if this is normal.

Please help diagnose. I love the tree and would hate to see it die. I already killed a red maple by planting it in soil that was too much clay.
