If you were in Nevada, I would say Cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum) the bane of the desert. Hmmm... apparently you have it too: https://www.invasiveplantatlas... Looks like you got it. Thanks. I never heard of it but I see it along the highways now just at the edges and areas like the local abandoned railroad where they mow a couple of times a year. I thought it was very pretty. Glad I didn't bring it home. |

No, you don't want this stuff. The Nevada Dept. of Forestry would rather battle a sagebrush fire than a cheatgrass fire. In Nevada, you can be fined for not getting rid of it. There was just a piece on the evening news talking about the newest weapon in the cheatgrass battle - herds of goats! ![]() Edited to add: Oops! Sheep - a flock of 650 of them. They eat 40 TONS of grass/sagebrush ... a month! I wouldn't mind seeing goats around town. Thanks for teaching me something new. |

Apparently, the flock of sheep are all yearlings and are working my side of town. I am on the hunt! If I find them, I will post photos. ![]() Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and proclaiming...."WOW What a Ride!!" -Mark Frost President: Orchid Society of Northern Nevada Webmaster: osnnv.org |
