Deeby said:Rita, I was reading through your cucumber thread from 2012. You mentioned that you were growing a Salad Bush cucumber. Do you remember how it tasted and if it was productive? That's one I would like to try and it might work out better on my patio than Spacemaster.

I never grew it again but it did put out lots of medium size tasty cucumbers. I think you would like it.

I try to grow everything, sometime not successful.

Currently, I am still picking smaller cucumbers, at least one or two a day. First frost in this area is usually around Thanksgiving so it won't last much longer. Crying

Kat, "chilly" is relative! Just how cold is it (in degrees Celsius)?

It was "chilly" here this week, in the low 50's (yes, that's Celsius) with nights at/near 32. I wonder just how long to expect my cucumber plants to keep going next year!

They will slow down at about 45*, but should still be growing until a cold snap. You may have to allow the first vines to grow, then come in with more seeds a month after first planting to extend the season Bet.

Found this thread about cucumbers on page 6 and last used in November.

I have to set up my cucumber trellis areas. I guess first I have to see how many different cucumber varieties I bought seeds for last Fall.

I'm growing mine up the garden perimeter fence this year (or planning, as they seem to get their own ideas about where to climb) and today planted seed of Boston pickling (favorite) and some other plain basic cuke. the plan is five nice vines a foot apart now, and then plant more seed in a few weeks for staggered cropping.
i'm pretty OK today, how are you? ;^)

Mine are out there in the rain drowning, chuckl. I checked them about noon when the rain had stalled, I need more short term stakes tho.

I seem to have bought seven packets of cucumber seeds.

Yamato Sanjaku
Green Light
Manny
Tasty King
Tanja
Muncher
Tendergreen

Some of these varieties I have had before and some are new for me.

Cucumber bed needs lots of work before I can plant out my seeds.

Rita, will you be trying all of them this season?

I'm only growing one type this season. Early Cluster. They did really well here last year so hope to see if it was a fluke or not.

Probably. I have to figure out my space and how many I can plant along this longish garden bed that I do my cucumbers in.

I have to dig some weeds and prepare the garden bed before I can plant my cucumber seeds.

I do so love a fresh from the garden cucumber and tomato salad in the summer.

@BetNC this is the largest cuke I have so far from the first seeds out. It is one of the Southern Pickling cukes I have. Please note I have female flowers on the MAIN stem.
