I finally used my gift certificate from Bluestone Perennials. Except for some pawpaw tree seedlings purchased about 10 years ago, this was my only venture into buying live plants online. The shipment was packed perfectly with zero damage except for one leaf on a hydrangea which was about 10 inches tall. Everything was very fresh and ready to plant. I highly recommend them to anyone needing any of their plants.

Feel free to add your recommendations and experiences of online plant purchases.

As far as Bluestone, I have been happy with everything I have ever purchased from them!

In the middle of April I bought 3 paeonia japonicas and some other perennials from Broken Arrow Nursery in Connecticut. Their packaging was perfect and all the plants arrived as fresh looking as possible. I would give them an A +++!

This is my first time buying from them but won't be the last.

Here are my japonicas.

I buy most of my plants online and Bluestone is one of my favorite nurseries.

One year I called customer service about a baptisia that died. No problem with a replacement.

I mentioned that I had another plant that had died as well, but that I thought it was my fault. They insisted on replacing that one as well.

In general, they have an outstanding line up of products, their packaging is excellent and their guarantee is first rate.

I have been buying from them for over ten years. They have improved greatly. They were okay before in most things but seem to really putting a great effort to stand out from the less careful vendors. Far Reaches is another one. They have a specialized line of plants, more species oriented although they do cultivars also. The 20 plants I ordered from them were so fresh and undamaged that it was like going to a local nursery and picking out your plants to take home. Just great. Only lost one which was my own fault - a very tender ephemeral.

Oh yes, peonies! Bluestone does not have peonies...

My favorite peony supplier is G. H. Wild & Son.

They usually have an interesting offering at good prices.

Customer support is good. They replace or reimburse without a hassle.

And, if you like yellow flowers, they have a great selection of Daylilies.

However, no Itohs. For these I go to Adelman, Swenson, Hollingsworth, Solaris, Fina, Brook & others.

Itohs are very expensive so I try to buy on sale.
One old Garden Center is going out of business, so I have acquired plants labelled as Yellow Doodle Dandee and Singing in the Rain. Potted plants.
