I moved to new house and laid a lawn. A thuggish plant appears each Spring, up through the lawn. The spread is now about 18" across. I assume it is bulbs, as the stems become white under the ground surface and I have dug down over a foot and still can't get to the bottom to dig whatever it is out. Help!
Can anyone identify this plant?

Alstroemeria?

Peony?

Suggest stop mowing these flowers, allow to bloom... You may realize that the turf is the thug.

Thank you - peony did occur to me, but no flowers after 2 years. Will give it one more chance!

Might take it a while, if you've been mowing....

And when the soil has been piled too deep over their roots.... That's not helpful.

I'd want the peony, and not want the turf at all.
I'd probably take up soil around the peony, pretty wide... And see if I couldn't eventually find the tubers.

Like I said, I'd value the flower, and not the grass.... So... Really wide.
