Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if those of us who sell daylilies ever check the list of those you have that other members "want," "absolutely must have," and thereby you can make a sale and make someone else extremely happy!!!

I feel as though I'm listing some as "I could die for!!" (that's not a real category) in vain...

We could possibly check on some during the slow winter months and sell (or trade) come spring, or fall is fine with me too.

Thanks Y'all,

Sheila

Hi Sheila,

I do sometimes look at people's lists but I've never contacted anyone who wants a daylily that I have. I just wasn't sure the list was updated and figured they probably don't want the plant anymore or already got it. But someone did look at my list and offered me one of their daylilies that I wanted! So I guess I should look to see if anyone wants one of my plants when it comes time to divide them!

I did check out your list but I don't have anything you want. But if you see that a member has a plant that you want listed as for sale or trade I would definitely contact them! I prefer Spring delivery but I'd never ship early in Spring because I lose too many plants/fans late winter/early Spring to be comfortable promising someone a specific plant.

I know it is a benefit of having the lists but I have not done that, even though I am always interested in a trade. I know I have several you are looking for, but I mostly just divide mine in the fall. Don't like to lose any more blooms than i can help. Also, I almost never lose plants over winter, but often lose some shortly after bloom to crown rot, so like to make sure mine survive that. I have never made a list of my wants, but I should do that. Maybe we can do some trading this fall?

I haven't sold for years, but I do notice the member wants when I visit the database.

So far, I've done trades with two members—both worked out very well. I've sent messages to about 6 other members offering plants they wanted, but never received any responses. I think some of the accounts might be inactive, or they've already obtained the plant and haven't removed it from the list.

After searching the database for people growing a plant I am seeking, I will look at their list and if they seem to trade or sell, I have written with a request to trade or purchase.

About 1/3 of mine could be divided this year. Gonna have to try to update my list to include those that I'd sell or trade...

I'm trying to justify my purchases as "future retirement"... So, you know, in order to retire, I have to have a plethora to start with... Angel I

I don't sell. I ask if individuals want a certain plant. Then I'll send with the understanding that postage will be reimbursed. Works for me.

Thank you all for your replies!! Thank You!

I want to make sure everyone is clear that the rules state that if a plant isn't listed as for sale or trade we're not to ask anyone to do that. A good many of mine are brand new and not ready to lift and divide. I'd say half of them are. I should go back and make a note of those myself because I no doubt filled it in when I first received them!! Yikes!! Rolling my eyes. It wouldn't bother me in the least if anyone asked me if one was for sale or not, to let you know!!!

I love the thoughts on retirement as that's what I'm telling my husband....so far it's working....LOL

I prefer lifting in the fall too and our fall in zone 7b doesn't begin until late Sept/Oct. so it's sometimes difficult getting them far north of me before your winter begins but I do my best to accommodate those that live way up there! I've traded with a friend in Wisconsin with no problems and am open to trades.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it!!

Sheila it wouldn't bother me either. That is just there to eliminate unwanted solicitation. I have gotten plants from other gardeners and sent some that have something on their want list. I currently just do trades or some things for postage. If it is a regular here I wouldn't feel bad asking if I have to have it.

Well, here in southeast Alabama, October is my favorite month to divide and plant daylilies. It seems perfect for me and the plants.

My list has all the ones i have.,except my unknowns. The ones when i didnt know about names. I will trade anyrhing i have if i have enough. When i say enough that means i have more than 6 fans . Most of ours have more than 6. I usually buy clumps.

I have gone through people's list looking for Bud Bennett intros that I don't grow and have contacted them and they have either said they no longer have that plant or they have the plant and are willing to sell a piece. Since his intros are difficult to find, this was the only way to get a couple of them.

Have you contacted the President of NCDC? That's the club that Bud used to belong to. Jerry Bange used to be Pres, but I'm not sure who is now. Kathleen Schroeder would know. If anyone would have his cultivars, it would be members of this club. Kathleen is Region 3 Director and you can find her contact info on the AHS page.

It doesn't bother me a bit if someone asks me about a plant on my list. Although I often don't have it to sell right then, I can put them on list for what they want. I do sell off and on. I find that many people do not keep their list up to date so that makes the feature unreliable.
