I hope it is okay to post this, if not I apologize.

Kalapana tropics is currently dealing with the devistation of the volcano, and earthquakes due to the eruption. It's damaged water lines, toppled plant shelves, ect. They need to move as many plants as possible. I would hate for all these plants to go to waste so I am posting in hopes of bringing awareness and help bring in customers. They are mainly a wholesale company, but they do offer a small variety for retail.

If you are looking for any plants, please stop by and see if they have any you are wanting and purchase. If you can order large quantities wholesale, they are offering a bare root special to move as much as possible.

Here is the retail link....

https://www.kalapanatropicals....

You can email and ask if they are also offering a sale for retail.

Attached is a look at the email sent out to their wholesale customers.

I think our club is taking advantage of this to get plants for a potting / mounting session as well as have plants for our raffle table. We are lucky that one of our members has access to a huge greenhouse. It's heartbreaking what those folks on the Big Island are having to deal with.

@sugarcane,

Yes it is. I am posting everywhere I can think to hopefully get more people to order and save as many plants as we can. I am sure it's possible other venders may be effected also, but I am unsure. It's trully heart breaking.

Every person I can send helps one more plant live!

Unfortunately I have no idea of just how desperate they are. Their current plight is devastating and difficult but honestly, I have been bombarded with ads by them for the better part of 6 months now, maybe longer.
The current volcanic crisis is no where near that long. So is it a real crisis or is it simply the "boy who cried wolf?"
It just gives me reason to wonder.
Btw, the prices are very similar now to what they always are so if you need to move plants, why aren't they cheaper?

I am inclined to agree with Bill.

I have been following a friend who lives in Orchidland which is roughly midway between the activity and Kurtistown where Kalapana is located. The ground is rumbling but they are high enough and not in any imminent danger. So far the vog is blowing in another direction. On the other hand, Akatsuka Orchids is located right on Rt. 11 in the town of Volcano. I think they are close enough, (maybe 5 miles, less as the crow flies) to the cauldera to be impacted by the sulphuric acid and the heavy ash and of course, the earthquakes.

I for one know I am not personally there so I won't make an assumption I know nothing about. Pictures look real enough to prove a disturbance, they aren't claiming total destruction.

If by chance you guys hear Atkasuka needs to move product also, let me know, as I will do my best to spread the word for them also.

Kalapana is claiming they had a water line break, and planters toppled, seems to be a legitimeant amount of disturbance per the situation.

We have no idea how their lines were ran to start, it doesnt take much to cause a disruption. Who are we to say that their lines possibly were in poor condition prior so it was easily disturbed?

I am just doing what I believed to be what I could per the situation. If you believe it's false, feel free to delete the post, or just don't order anything.

Not a downer at all. Everyone can do as they please.
All I did was provide information just like you did.

I am not a downer, I am simply providing information. Same as you. No more, no less.
Kalapana is a great provider of orchids, and I have several plants of theirs. But I wonder if a volcanic emergency requires them to move as much product as possible, why are the prices relatively the same?

Oops, sorry for that. I lost service to my cell and I did not see that my first post of the last 2 made it.

With a 6.9 earthquake like they had last week tumbled tables and broken lines are inevitable but my friend posts several times a day to let folks know she is safe. Scared and awed by the destruction but OK.

It is getting bad over there. Lava has breached the power plant also.
