I was trying to figure out what these plants are, have been seeing them all over lately. They grow along coniferous logging roads and on landings (seem to be very tolerant to disturbance), see them between sea level and 1200 feet pretty frequently. Generally the plants are between 6 inches to 1 foot tall. A few that I have seen have been close to the immature seed phase, and each flowerlet looks like it turns into a round ball.
