Hi guys we've been growing butternut the last couple of years from seed , we dry the seeds and make sure all squash is removed then put them in an envelope till the next year to grow but sometimes we struggle getting them to germinate, would it be better to sow the seeds straight from a fresh on the same day without drying them out first many thanks Keith ....

Are you picking fully mature/ripe squash and then letting them sit before harvesting the seeds? You have to try to mimic the conditions of a plant growing in the wild. That means the squash has to be left on the vine until the vine dies and then left to sit until it starts to soften.
