Vegetables and Fruit forum→Sick fig tree

My fig tree has not leafed out. Instead it has oozing patches on the trunk. But there are signs of new growth at the base. Should I prune off the bad stuff?

Where are you? My fig in Maryland died to the ground this past winter and has only just started new growth from the soil level.
