According to Southernpeony, 2018 American Peony Society Gold Medal Winner is 'Pietertje Vriend Wagenaar'.

I took a picture of it in Adelman display garden because I noticed the very interesting "paint flecks" on the petals.

Yes, it is lovely peony! And it had to be a Dutch who (could pronounce this name properly and) announced this Gold Medal Winner! It was the owner of the Oregon Perennial company Piet Wierstra.

LOL. I agree. You did the name justice in Oregon. I wouldn't even try. I think Gary wanted a picture of it.

Isn't this a natural hybrid of Kansas and Sarah Bernhardt?
Let's hope this hybrid doesn't need as much as staking as the latter.

I ordered this peony for ABG but Mike said they were pretty well full up on peonies. So, oh darn, I will have to keep it for myself. May have to start planting in the neighbor's yard. Think he will notice? Lol

Mary Stella, dig up something that is a mislabeled peony and put the new one in its place. Give the other one away. Rolling on the floor laughing

The only mislabeled peony I received went to ABG. It was Jan VanLeewen (sp). Bloomed red. Duh. I keep telling them to sell it and move one of the named cultivars into it's spot. I am afraid if they continue to keep them in pots buried in the ground they will die. This would be the third summer. Not good.

I agree with that. They need to get those peonies in the ground!

I will talk with them on Monday. I have to finish field verifications on the rock garden which will take around two hours at least. It would help if I knew my rock garden plants better. I take my iPad along with my accession cart, reports, etc to help. Slow going esp if it is raining. I dreamt it snowed last night and the plants were all under a couple of inches of snow so I couldn't verify them. Lol. Bad night's sleep.

But for sure will tell Mike that I will unpot them and at least get them directly in the ground, even if only in the research plot.
