My opinion, I just used potting soil for my gardens and everything grew just fine. Nice and beautiful black soil lol.

'seed starting soil' did give me better results than my baled commercial general potting mix. You don't always need to buy seed starting soil, but it can make a difference, IMHO.
Plant it and they will come.
