Thread OP

First time poster here. We purchased our house 3 years ago, and there was a small, established patch of Martha Washington asparagus. We have enjoyed eating it, so decided to plant more this spring - 3 Jersey giant and 4 purple passion plants. Planting was about a month ago and spears are still just emerging (so far 5/7 have emerged)...

The 4th plant to emerge disappeared when about 1/2 inch was above the soil line. The last plant came up 2 days ago. Today I noticed 2 deep grooves in the stalk.

I'll upload pics of the first plant to emerge because it too is deformed, the most recent plant, and a pic of a beetle that is suddenly present in large numbers in this area. From what I can tell on Google, this isn't an asparagus beetle, but is it some other beetle pest? I can try to get a better big pic if needed; they don't like to sit still.

Our weather has been 70-85 for highs and 50-60 for lows. No deer and very few rabbits here.

Any help will be appreciated!!
