Like everybody a lot of my semps are putting out bloom stalks. Most of them I am going to just let be because they have lots of babies to replace them. Some not so much.

First up. Canada Kate. She is a lone rosette and started to put out a stalk but I thought she was putting out babies too. Not so. What I thought were babies are now turning into more bloom stalks. I think I am gonna just let her go.

Thumb of 2018-06-21/MelissaHopper/0eaea0

Novak. Started to put out stalks from two large rosettes but then appeared to also be putting out a bunch of offsets. Not so. Offsets quickly turned into bloom stalks. There are a couple of rosettes that aren't blooming so I am not going to lose it completely.
Thumb of 2018-06-21/MelissaHopper/291dcf

Lavender & Old Lace. All the big rosettes are blooming but there are some babies around the base. Once they bloom I will start over with this one. I was gonna transplant it as the container is trashed but will just wait till it finishes blooming.

NoidP. I got this as a freebie from Youngs. I really like it. It was a single rosette, did not produce any offsets and is now blooming. I am thinking this is a candidate for whacking!
Thumb of 2018-06-21/MelissaHopper/74bdc4

Emily. I included her simply because I love the color of her flowers.

Besides the semps I posted above, I also have the following that are starting to bloom.

Pacific Magic Night
Pacific Jordan
Positively Glowing
Damask
More Honey
Mrs. Guiseppi
Leneca
Hopewell
Jungle Shadows
Gamale
Hey Hey
Lilac Time
Aglow
Fashion Diva
Flasher
Dark Cloud
Desert Bloom
Carmen
Bunny Girl
Maria Laach
Maroon Queen
Patent Leather Shoes

After they are done blooming I just toss the stalks on the compost pile because I have not gotten to the point where I want to mess with seeds.

If anybody wants any of my bloom stalks, I would be a happy to send them to you. Just let me know.

Thank you for the offer Melissa, but my beds are full of bloom stalks and bloom stalks forming. Many of them will just be put in the yard debris bin. I do love the flowers though, so I let them go until the flowers are finished. The bees and such love to feed from them.
Your 'Emily' bloom is ever so sweet.
You might still get offsets from your 'Canada Kate'. Some of those still look viable. Hurray!

Melissa, now that you seen many stages of the bloom stalking...the coning stage, the rocket stage , the Medusa stage, etc., in the future you will be able to tell when the plant is changing. If you catch the earliest stage ( when there's slightest hint of cone) when you think the center is starting to condense and change shape, that is when I look for the last set of big leaves and whack the stem at that point. Sometimes I have to feel from the top of the slightly coning center downward and feel for the stem-like formation that is above the last mature leaves.

Lynn, I always let mine bloom all the way out and when they completely die then I cut them out of the group. Or sometimes I just take all the offsets and pot them up and start over. Our local fair is the middle of July so I am hoping some of them will be in prime bloom so I can exhibit them.

Some of what Canada Kate is producing, way down low, does look like they might be offsets instead of blooms. I guess time will tell.

Julia, I will make sure I check closely before discarding anybody.

Bev, thanks for the tips on what to look for. Funny how the more I do with these plants, the more there seems to be to do.

This does appear to be an extreme bloom year in western Oregon and Washington. Is this going on in the rest of the lower 48? Do we have any specific ideas on what triggered it?

So far mine aren't doing that in NM. We may just be a bit behind. Now that we have the heat, the blooming may begin.

The weather patterns have been so unusual this year in my part of the US. I do think that contributes to blooming. Then again I have a lot of mature offsets/colonies that would cause me to have lots of blooms. Shrug!

I think some of mine had gone insane. It seems like everybody is blooming and I have more than one that is starting to put out offsets but then they turn into blooms!! I am working on saving offsets so I don't completely lose a plant.

Knock on wood, Angelo and hope it's the only one. I'm downsizing so the ones going into bloom saves me from having to make any decisions.

Wow Julia, what a gloriously beautiful semp and photo, gorgeous twins, and fortunately some non-flowering rosettes in the background. I recommend uploading that photo to the plant record/semp database, it might get lots of likes to get into the weekly NGA digest, like Reinhardt did. Hurray!

I checked, it's already in my "must have" list.

Every time I check my semps I seem to find another one is blooming. Thank goodness most of them are in substantial colonies but there are some that are blooming out completely.

This is my first one to really open up. It is a cobweb noid and I just love the pink color of the flowers.

It was huge last year. It really puts on a good display. I don't have a lot of cobweb semps, but the ones that I do have all have the pink blooms.
